Explorers is the oldest age section in youth Scouting and is for 14 to 17 year olds. All Explorer units are run by the district, rather than an individual group, however Sir Ranulph Fiennes Unit works closely with 1st Southgate Scout Group and we encourage all their members to join us when they are old enough.
Explorers spend lots of time doing adventurous activities such as hiking and survival skills where everyone is challenged to learn something new as well as enjoy themselves. We also try to learn many life skills through fun activities such as cooking competitions.
The Explorers also try to do many activities outside of the usual Monday night program, this includes a long camp in the school summer holiday which varies from camping with thousands of others at Ardingly Showground to traveling abroad and visiting new places. On top of this summer camp we also go away for multiple weekends throughout the year to popular events such as Gilwell24 and do day events such as our annual Christmas dinner and the London Monopoly Run.
