Visit to Gravetye Estate

A wonderful, warm afternoon was had at the Gravetye Estate today. A group of Beavers & Cubs got to learn new skills using a variety of hand tools to do some coppicing. The wood will then be used to make a dead hedge. They were all extremely well behaved & were excellent at working in teams & sharing.

Group Camp 2023

What a weekend!

We had 41 young people join us for our group camp this year! The whole camp had an amazing atmosphere!

This weekend wouldn’t have been possible without the support from the amazing leaders we had with us. Every leader got stuck in and helped where they could. So on behalf of all the young people, and myself, I want to say a MASSIVE thank you to them.

They tried Archery, Angel throwing, Air Rifle shooting, played lots of games and did a lot of being loud and running around!

We really hope that all the young people enjoyed their time with us this weekend, here are some photos below from the weekend!

Stanford 60th Celebration

This weekend we celebrated 60 years of Stanford Scout Camp Site with a day for our Adult Volunteers and their families – an opportunity to say thank you for all of their hard work. The day was full of activities, fun, food and a tug of war (which 1st Southgate/SRF won!). As the light faded, we gathered around the campfire for some presentations. The evening then continued with Adam Jasko leading the campfire before we finished the day with a quiz.

Congratulations Darren

This week our Group Scout Leader, Chris, was able to award Darren with his Getting Started certificate and pin badge. Already such a strong part of the team, well done Darren and thank you very much for all you do.

SRF Summer Camp 2023

For those of you who don’t know, SRF is the Explorer Unit (14-17 year olds) that 1st Southgate Scouts usually move up to.

We have just finished our 2023 summer camp, a week at an activity site in Hertfordshire.

Great fun was had by everyone who attended. The first two photos were from the first day of camp versus the last day of camp – everyone looks a bit more tired, but all still happy and smiling!

Karen’s (Rama’s) 30 Year Service Award

Last weekend marked the end of Karen’s (Rama’s) final beaver sleepover. All of the Beavers had a great time and the closing ceremony allowed the whole group the opportunity to say thank you to Karen for all of her hard work over the last 30 years. Karen really has given everything to 1st Southgate and influenced the lives of so many young people. In her own words:

I just wanted to say a HUGE Thank You to everyone for making my last Beaver Sleepover a memorable one. For the last 30 years I have had the privilege of being part of an amazing team but the time has come to hang up my scarf & woggle & pass the job on.
Wishing you all the best Tracy in your new role. Good luck to all the current Beavers, I hope you continue to have a fabulous Scouting journey.🎉⚜️🎉
