Group Camp 2022

   |   By  |  0 Comments

Group Camp is over for another year! We hope everyone had a great time last weekend – thank you all for being so good all weekend!

We got lots of badge work done, played with friends, had a campfire, did some singing among lots of other things!

Big thank you to our leadership team who have worked so hard to make this camp happen, both planning and over the weekend!

If you’re interested in getting involved as a leader, feel free to come and talk to one of us! Camps are great fun!

A message of remembrance

As Scouts we are united in sorrow for the loss of our Patron, HM The Queen. She leaves a bright legacy of hope and promise for future generations.

We will remember her, and give thanks for her kindness, her service, and the unwavering support she showed our movement over many decades. She was truly a friend to Scouts everywhere. For seventy years, HM The Queen has stood at our side, encouraging our volunteers and inspiring our young people to learn new skills, help others and shine brightly.

Her sense of duty was an outstanding example to every single Scout.

It will take time for our movement, and our nation to recover from this loss. Let’s take great solace and comfort in her warm heartedness towards young people, her devotion to her duty and most of all her kindness.

In memory of our great Patron, let’s show that same sense of kindness and respect to each other. On behalf of every Scout, we thank HM The Queen for her service. We will never forget her.

To support young people at this time, we would ask that Scouts meetings still continue during the national mourning period, with activities chosen to be respectful and meaningful.

On behalf of every Scout, we thank HM The Queen for her service. We will never forget her.

Queens Jubilee Event – What a day!

Crawley District Scouts celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee yesterday at Stanford. Such an amazing day. The time and effort put into this was paid back ten fold by the young people safely having so much fun. The whole of 1st Southgate and SRF are very proud to have been part of making so many great memories.

Thank you to everyone who joined 1st Southgate and SRF at Stanfords Campsite last weekend to renew our Scout Promises around the fire. Members and families enjoyed use of the whole site, playing games and having a picnic in the sun.

‘Woollies and Rags’ Clothing Collection

For some years we have been collecting textiles from our members and their families to sell for recycling.

Over this time we have generated thousands of pounds, which have been used, amongst other things, to help fund the hut refurbishments, purchase new tents and equipment, and even helping sponsor Scouts to attend International Jamborees.

The system is simple.  We ask you to donate any old clothes, bags, belts, shoes, curtains, towels or bed linen, and drop them off in the shed at the top of the car park at Ron Hobbs Hall – the scout hut.

Just like the charity bags that come through your door, we will sell them to our recyclers (Wilcox & Co. Textile Recyclers and Reclaimers).  Unlike the bags that come through your door, 100% of the profit made from this recycling goes to your Group.

Now meetings are returning to normal, can we ask you to have a ‘spring clean’, and bring a bag or two to your next meeting?

Unfortunately, we cannot accept quilts, duvets, pillows or fluffy toys. Also, please note we can no longer accept old printer cartridges for recycling.

Thank you Crawley Council!

Recently Graham and Andy from Crawley Borough Council have received their thank you badges for all of the hours of hard work they put in clearing leaves and brambles from our site this Autumn and Winter. Huge thank you for all the support.

Thank you for coming!

Thank you to everyone that came to our annual Winter Event at Stanfords, we had games, food, fire and fireworks. We really hope that everyone had a great time because we certainly did! These events are a massive team effort so thank you to everyone that made it possible.

A special mention to those leaders who were presented with training and long service awards by our District Commissioner, you are what make Scouting great! Furthermore, an even bigger well done to Kerry Waudby for her merit award, it was very well deserved!

When an 8 year old Beaver leaves the dam to cross the river and join the Cubs in the jungle they now have a proper river to jump. A huge thanks to those who made it happen, it looks great!
